Casual vacancies in the 11th Legislative Assembly (2024-2028)
There has been one casual vacancy since the 2024 Legislative Assembly election.
Mr Shane Rattenbury
Mr Shane Rattenbury, MLA for Kurrajong, resigned from the ACT Legislative Assembly on Friday 15 May 2026.
A notice was published in The Canberra Times on Monday 25 May 2026 calling for nominations from eligible candidates.
Any person who was an unsuccessful candidate for the electorate of Kurrajong at the 2024 ACT Legislative Assembly election could apply to contest this vacancy. Applications closed at 12 noon on Thursday 4 June 2026.
The names of the candidates who applied to contest the vacancy were publicly declared at 12:30 pm on 4 June 2026 at the Canberra Museum and Gallery Theatrette. A recount of the votes received by Mr Rattenbury at the 2024 election was conducted immediately after the declaration of candidates to determine who would replace Mr Rattenbury in the Assembly.

Results
Ms Rebecca Vassarotti received a majority of preferences after Mr Shane Rattenbury' votes were distributed by computer count and will be formally declared elected at 3pm on Friday 5 June 2026 at the Canberra Museum and Gallery Theatrette.
