Personal information submitted online
When Elections ACT collects personal information submitted directly by a user, those electronic records are stored securely in databases.
The databases are managed by our ICT providers in accordance with Elections ACT’s ICT security policies and practices.
Where personal information is held in electronic files, only Election ACT employees whose duties require access to the information can access the files.
Your email address
Elections ACT will only record your email address if:
- you email us
- a third party provides it to us
- you enter your email address in a paper or online electoral form for purposes such as:
- enrolment
- postal voting
- overseas voting
- applications for casual work
- party registration
- financial disclosure.
We only use your email address for the purpose you provided it. We won’t add it to any mailing lists without your written consent.
We won’t use or disclose your email address for any other purpose, without your prior written consent.
Unsubscribe from email lists
If you’re listed in any of our media or subscriber email lists, you can opt out at any time.
Unsubscribe by sending an email to elections@act.gov.au.
Information security
The Information Privacy Act 2014 requires Elections ACT to take reasonable steps to ensure personal information it holds is safe and secure. We make every effort to protect your personal information from misuse, interference or loss from unauthorised access, use or modification or disclosure.
The Territory Records Act 2002 establishes frameworks for managing your personal information if it’s held in Elections ACT or ACT government files or data systems. Elections ACT handles your personal information in accordance with any legislation under which it was collected.
We strictly control access to Elections ACT’s offices. Comprehensive protections guard against unauthorised access to both paper and electronic files.
While we make all efforts to secure information transmitted to the Elections ACT website, there are inherent risks associated with transmitting information via the Internet. It is possible third parties can access this information in transit.
You can always contact Elections ACT in person, by post or by telephone.
Information collected and held by this website
