The 2024 ACT Legislative Assembly election period officially begins today, marking the commencement of the pre-election period.

Candidate nominations now open

“Today also marks the start of the official candidate nomination period,” Mr Cantwell said.

The candidate nomination period runs from Friday, 13 September 2024 until noon Tuesday, 24 September. A formal declaration of candidates and a random draw for ballot position will take place at noon on Wednesday, 25 September.

Candidates can be nominated in 2 ways:

  • non-party candidates can be nominated by 20 electors who are entitled to vote for the electorate for which the candidate is being nominated.
  • party candidates can be nominated by the registered officer of a registered political party.

Enrolment updates due today, 13 September at 6pm

Eligible ACT voters who are already enrolled but have recently moved have until 6 pm, Friday 13 September 2024, to ensure their enrolment is up to date for the upcoming election.

“While ACT residents who are not yet enrolled can enrol up to, and on, the final day of voting, we encourage them to enrol online ahead of time for a smoother and more efficient experience,” Mr Cantwell said.
