Casual vacancy countback result: Ms Rebecca Vassarotti to be elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly
Ms Rebecca Vassarottiis set to replace Mr Shane Rattenbury MLAin the ACT Legislative Assembly, the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Damian Cantwell AM CSC announced today.
The names of the candidates who nominated to contest the vacancy are as follows:
- Ramon Bouckaert (Canberra Liberals)
- James Cruz (ACT Greens)
- Marilena Damiano (Independent)
- Jenny Hentzschel (Family First)
- Harrison Pike (First Nation Party)
- Rebecca Vassarotti (ACT Greens)
The result of the countback to fill the vacancy resulting from the resignation of Mr Shane Rattenbury MLAis available from the Elections ACT website www.elections.act.gov.au.
The ACT Greens candidate for Kurrajong, Ms Vassarotti received a majority of preferences after Mr Rattenbury’s votes were distributed by computer count this afternoon.
The scrutiny tables set out the result of the count, showing at Table 1 the result of the distribution of the ballot papers, and showing at Table 2 the result in terms of the number of votes those ballots papers represent.
It is expected that Ms Vassarotti will be officially declared elected to the ACT Legislative Assembly on Friday 5 June 2026 at 3:00 pm by the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Damian Cantwell AM CSC.
Media representatives and members of the public are welcome to attend the declaration of the poll. The declaration will be held at the Canberra Museum and Gallery Theatrette, corner London Circuit and Civic Square, Canberra City.
