Public election funding payments for the 2024 ACT Legislative Assembly election announced
MEDIA RELEASE
27 November 2024
Seven registered political parties have been paid public election funding following the October 2024 ACT election, the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Damian Cantwell said today.
A registered political party is eligible to receive election funding for the votes obtained by its endorsed candidates who together polled at least 4% of the total number of formal first preference votes cast in an electorate.
A non-party candidate is eligible to receive election funding if the candidate polls at least 4% of the total number of formal first preference votes cast in the relevant electorate.
“ACT Labor, the Canberra Liberals, The ACT Greens and Independents for Canberra reached the 4% threshold in each of the five electorates,” Mr Cantwell continued. “Belco Party and Family First achieved the threshold in Ginninderra, while Fiona Carrick Independent qualified for public funding in Murrumbidgee.”
“For the October 2024 election the rate of public funding was calculated at 1015.896 cents per eligible vote,” Mr Cantwell said. “Public funding payments totalled $2,584,774.68 across the seven parties.”
“No party or candidate is obliged to accept public funding,” Mr Cantwell said.
The calculated amounts paid to each party are set out below:

|---|---|
Australian Labor Party (ACT Branch) | $950,563.73 |
Belco Party (ACT) | $26,616.48 |
