MEDIA RELEASE

19 September 2024

‘The names of candidates nominated for the 2024 ACT Legislative Assembly election and the draw for ballot paper positions will take place at noon 25 September 2024,’ the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Damian Cantwell AM CSC said today.

‘The names of the nominated candidates and, where relevant, their political party affiliations will be publicly announced. This will be followed by a ‘double randomisation’ draw for each electorate to determine the order in which each party will appear on the ballot paper.’

A further draw will then take place to determine the starting order for Robson rotation positions in each column. The order resulting from this draw will be used by Elections ACT when it publishes sample ballot papers.

‘Under the Robson rotation system, 60 different versions of the ballot papers will be printed for each electorate,’ Mr Cantwell said.

The Declaration of nominations and draw for ballot paper positions will be held in the Reception Room at the Legislative Assembly from 12:00 noon. Elections ACT encourages attendants to arrive at 11:45 am.

Candidates and members of the media are invited to attend the event.
