Public suggestions period for redistribution of ACT electoral boundaries and changes to electorate names closes this Tuesday

Published 27 Feb 2023

“Members of the public have until midnight this Tuesday, 28 February to make suggestions for changes to the ACT Legislative Assembly’s electorate boundaries and names”, the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Damian Cantwell AM CSC, said today.

“Public consultation is an important part of the redistribution process as it provides the Redistribution Committee with a better understanding of the community’s points of view,” Mr Cantwell said.

Following the close of the suggestion period, all lodged submissions will be made publicly available on the Elections ACT website from Wednesday, 1 March 2023. A period of public comment upon those suggestions will then immediately commence and run until 14 March 2023.

After the Redistribution Committee reviews and considers each of the public suggestions and comments, it will publish a proposed redistribution of the ACT into the five electorates. The public will then have 28 days in which to object to the proposed boundaries.

The ACT Electoral Commission has made available a graphical boundary mapping tool at www.elections.act.gov.au/redistribution to allow users to define and submit their electorate boundaries and name suggestions online.

Complete electoral enrolment statistics and further detailed information is available from the ACT Electoral Commission’s website at www.elections.act.gov.au and from its office at the Nara Centre, 3 Constitution Avenue, Canberra City.
