14 candidates standing for the 2014 ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body election

The names of the candidates contesting the ACT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body election were officially declared this week, the ACT Electoral Commissioner Phil Green said today.

The declaration of candidates on Tuesday 3 June 2014 was followed by a random draw for ballot paper position.  The names of the 14 candidates contesting the election listed in ballot paper order are:

  • Richie Allan
  • Rod Little
  • Jo Chivers
  • Tjanara Goreng Goreng
  • Lynnice Letty Keen
  • Delephene Fraser
  • Fred Monaghan
  • Ross Fowler
  • Diane Collins
  • Steven Brown
  • Maurice Walker
  • Darryl Miller

Seven members are to be chosen to represent the ACT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community on the Elected Body. Polling for the election will take place during NAIDOC week from 5 July to 12 July 2014.

“A ‘meet the candidates’ evening is being held for members of the community, where each candidate will be given the opportunity to speak,” said Robyn Forester, Director of the ACT Office of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander affairs.

Media representatives and members of the public are invited to the ‘meet the candidates’ evening, to be held on Thursday 19 June 2014, from 5pm to 9pm at the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Centre, 245 Lady Denman Drive, Yarramundi Reach.
