Over 256,700 enrolled to vote in the ACT election

Over 13,000 more people will be able to vote in this year’s ACT Legislative Assembly election, compared with the electoral roll for the last election in 2008.

The rolls for the 20 October election closed on Friday 21 September.

“There are 256,702 electors on the roll for this election – an increase of 13,231 on the 243,471 who were enrolled for the last election in 2008,” the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Phillip Green, said today.

“In 2012, 132,287 females and 124,415 males will be eligible to vote,” Mr Green said.

“A total of 3435 electors who will be 18 on polling day are enrolled to vote, estimated to be around 67% of all eligible 18-year-olds in the ACT. A total of 3165 electors will be 19 on polling day, estimated to be around 56% of eligible 19-year-olds,” Mr Green said.
