ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body Election Results Announced

The names of the seven members to be elected to the ACT’s new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body were announced today by the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Phil Green.

Thirteen candidates contested the election. Voting for the election took place from Monday 16 June to Saturday 21 June 2008. Any Aboriginal person or Torres Strait Islander aged 18 or over, living in the ACT, was eligible to vote in the election.

"Counting for the ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body election took place today, using the Hare-Clark proportional representation system," Mr Green said. "A total of 227 votes were admitted to the count."

The successful candidates in the order in which they were successful are:

Dianne Collins
Paul House
Fred Monaghan
Terry Williams
Lynette Goodwin
Roslyn Brown

The official declaration of the poll will take place at 2 pm tomorrow, Wednesday 2 July, in the Exhibition Room on the first floor of the ACT Legislative Assembly. The declaration will be open to candidates, the media and the general public.
