Mr Ed Killesteyn PSM appointed as part-time Member of the ACT Electoral Commission

“Mr Ed Killesteyn PSM has been appointed by the Speaker of the ACT Legislative Assembly, Mrs Joy Burch MLA, as the part-time Member of the ACT Electoral Commission with effect from 6 September 2022,” the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Damian Cantwell AM CSC said today, in welcoming Mr Killesteyn to the role. Mr Killesteyn’s five-year term of appointment will run until 5 September 2027.

Mr Killesteyn has been appointed to replace Mr Philip Moss AM, whose five-year term ended on 6 June 2022. Mr Cantwell paid tribute to the work of Mr Moss, stating “The Commission wishes to acknowledge and commend the service provided by Mr Moss in his role as the part-time Member of the Commission over the last five years.  The contribution by Mr Moss during this period greatly benefitted the work of the Commission.” Mr Cantwell said.

Mr Killesteyn is a highly accomplished senior executive with experience in public administration and in particular the conduct of elections and associated reform. He has a wealth of experience domestically, having held the role of Electoral Commissioner with the Australian Electoral Commission between 2009 and 2014, and has a broad international electoral knowledge base through his work as an advisor to the Cambridge (UK) Conference on Electoral Democracy as well as an advisor to Elections Saskatchewan, Canada.

Mr Killesteyn is a long-standing resident of Canberra.

The ACT Electoral Commission is an independent statutory authority comprising a part-time Chairperson, the Electoral Commissioner and a part-time Member, with responsibility for the conduct of elections and referendums for the ACT Legislative Assembly, the determination of electoral boundaries for the ACT, and the provision of electoral advice and services.
