1996 Redistribution

The Electoral Act 1992 requires a redistribution of electoral boundaries before each general election for the ACT Legislative Assembly. Following are details of the 1996 redistribution of ACT electorates.

Determination of Redistribution

The augmented ACT Electoral Commission concluded that the ACT should continue to be divided into the three existing electorates:

  • BRINDABELLA: a five member electorate comprising Tuggeranong, the Woden suburbs of Chifley, Pearce and Torrens and the southern remainder of the ACT;
  • GINNINDERRA: a five member electorate comprising Belconnen and Hall; and
  • MOLONGLO: a seven member electorate comprising Gungahlin, North Canberra, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden, excluding the Woden suburbs of Chifley, Pearce and Torrens.
