Electorates 1995 and 1998 elections

ACT electorates for 1995 and 1998 electionsFor the 1995 and 1998 elections, Members of the Legislative Assembly for the Australian Capital Territory were elected by voters from three electorates, Brindabella, Ginninderra and Molonglo.

Five (5) Members were elected from each of Brindabella and Ginninderra and seven (7) Members from Molonglo, making the 17 Members in the Assembly.

The boundaries for these electorates changed prior to the 2001 election.

Brindabella

Brindabella for 1995 and 1998 electionsFor the 1995 and 1998 ACT Legislative Assembly elections, Brindabella was a five member electorate comprising Tuggeranong, the Woden suburbs of Chifley, Pearce and Torrens and the southern remainder of the ACT.

The name "Brindabella" is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "two kangaroo rats". For generations of Canberrans, Brindabella is the name associated with the mountain range which dominates the southern horizon of Canberra City.

Ginninderra

Ginninderra for 1995 and 1998 electionsFor the 1995 and 1998 ACT Legislative Assembly elections, Ginninderra was a five member electorate comprising Belconnen and Hall.

The name "Ginninderra" is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "sparkling like the stars". It is the name given to the creek that flows through the middle of Belconnen, which was dammed to form Lake Ginninderra, the lake on which the Belconnen Town Centre is sited.

Molonglo

Molonglo for 1995 and 1998 electionsFor the 1995 and 1998 ACT Legislative Assembly elections, Molonglo was a seven member electorate comprising Gungahlin, North Canberra, South Canberra, Weston Creek and Woden, excluding the Woden suburbs of Chifley, Pearce and Torrens.

The name "Molonglo" is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning "like the sound of thunder". It is the name of the river that flows through the central electorate, which was dammed to form Lake Burley Griffin, one of the focal points of Canberra and of the central electorate.
