Declaration of nominations and draw for ballot paper positions

The names of candidates nominated for the 2016 ACT Legislative Assembly election and draw for ballot paper positions will take place from noon tomorrow, 22 September 2016, the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Phil Green said today.

“Members of the media, ACT election candidates and the public are invited to attend the declaration of nominations and the draw for ballot paper positions for the 15 October ACT Legislative Assembly election,” Mr Green said.

The declaration will take place in the Reception Room on the Ground Floor of the ACT Legislative Assembly building, Civic Square, London Circuit.

"The names of the nominated candidates and, where relevant, their political party affiliations will be publicly announced first,” Mr Green said.  “This will be followed by a ‘double randomisation’ draw for each electorate to determine the order in which each party will appear on the ballot paper.”

“A further draw will then take place to determine the starting order for the Robson rotations in each column,” Mr Green said.  “The order resulting from this draw will be used by Elections ACT when it publishes sample ballot papers.”

“Under the Robson rotation system, 60 different versions of the ballot papers will be printed for each electorate,” Mr Green said.
