Voting for the 2014 ACT Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body election starts on Saturday 5 July

Voting for the ACT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elected Body election commences on Saturday 5 July 2014, ACT Electoral Commissioner Phillip Green said today.

“This is the third election for the Elected Body, which was established in 2008. This year the election date has been changed to align with the start of NAIDOC week,” Mr Green said.

“Voting locations will be set up at major NAIDOC events including the NAIDOC Ball at QT Hotel on Saturday 5 July, NAIDOC on the Peninsula on Sunday 6 July and the Aboriginal Hostel’s luncheon on Friday 11 July,” Mr Green said.

Seven members are to be chosen to represent the ACT’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community on the Elected Body. The names of the 14 candidates contesting the election listed in ballot paper order are:

Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders living in the ACT can participate in the election by either attending a polling place, or by casting a postal vote.
