Time running out to pre-poll vote for ACT election

Published 17 Oct 2012

Voting in the 20 October ACT Legislative Assembly election has entered the final week with over 38,000 pre-poll and postal votes already issued, the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Phil Green, said today.

Voters who are unable to get to polling places on 20 October have until 8pm on Friday to cast a pre-poll vote at one of the six pre-poll centres, conveniently located near Canberra’s major centres.

“A sure sign that indicates polling day is not far away is the commencement of the election advertising blackout. Television and radio election advertising must cease from midnight tomorrow, Wednesday 17 October until the close of the poll on Saturday 20 October,” Mr Green said.

The pre-poll voting centres are at:

Belconnen: Belconnen Community Centre, Swanson Court (cnr Chandler Street)

Canberra City: Pilgrim House, 69 Northbourne Avenue

Downer: Downer Business Park, 2 Bradfield Street

Gungahlin: Gungahlin Library, Conference Room 1, Access via Hibberson Street

Tuggeranong: Salvation Army Hall, Cnr Anketell St and Reed St North

Woden: Woden Smith Family, Cnr Easty and Launceston Streets
