Bullet Train for Canberra applies to register as a political party for 2012 ACT election

Published 5 Jul 2012

“The Bullet Train for Canberra party has submitted an application to register as a political party in the ACT,” the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Phil Green, said today.

“Two other applications to register a political party were also received just before the 30 June deadline.  These applications are currently being processed, and further details will be made public as soon as possible,” Mr Green said.

“Parties wishing to register for ACT elections must submit a list of at least 100 members and a copy of the party’s constitution to the Electoral Commissioner.  Members of the public are entitled to object to an application for party registration if they consider that the party is not eligible to be registered,” Mr Green said.

Anyone wishing to object to the registration of the Bullet Train for Canberra party may lodge a written objection with the Electoral Commissioner by 20 July 2012.

Copies of the application and the constitution of the party are available for public inspection at the office of the Commissioner between 9.00am and 5.00pm on business days.

It is now too late for any political parties not yet registered for the October ACT election to submit an application for official registration to the ACT Electoral Commissioner.  To be registered for the 2012 election, applications had to be submitted before 1 July 2012.

Further information on party registration can be viewed on the Commission’s website at www.elections.act.gov.au .
