“The Liberal Democratic Party has applied to change its official abbreviation from LDP to Liberal Democrats”, the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Phil Green, said today

“Members of the public are entitled to object to an application to change a party abbreviation if they consider that the new abbreviation does not meet requirements,” Mr Green said.

Anyone wishing to object to the change to the abbreviation of the Liberal Democratic Party may lodge a written objection with the Electoral Commissioner by 19 June 2008.

Copies of the application and the constitution of the Liberal Democratic Party are available for public inspection at the office of the Commissioner between 9.00am and 5.00pm on business days.

Any political parties not yet registered for the October ACT election, or wishing to apply to change their details on the register of political parties, have until 30 June 2008 to submit an application to do so to the ACT Electoral Commissioner.
