Harold Hird Independent Group registration cancelled - Australian Labor Party (ACT Branch) changes name

Published 10 Oct 2005

The ACT Electoral Commission has cancelled the party registration of the Harold Hird Independent Group. In other changes to the ACT register of political parties the party name and abbreviation for the Australian Labor Party (ACT Branch) has been changed.

The secretary of the Harold Hird Independent Group wrote to the ACT Electoral Commissioner requesting cancellation of the party.

"As a result, I have cancelled the party's registration and the party details have been removed from the register", the Electoral Commissioner, Phil Green said today.

The Australian Labor Party (ACT Branch) applied to change its name and abbreviation on the party register. No public objections to the changes were received by the Commission.

"I have changed the register so that the party formerly known as Australian Labor Party, Australian Capital Territory will now be known as Australian Labor Party (ACT Branch) with the abbreviation of the name being Australian Labor Party," Mr Green said.

A full list of registered parties is available from the Commission, and can be viewed on the Commission's website here.
