Three new political parties apply for registration

The ACT Electoral Commission has received applications from three groups wishing to be registered as political parties for the October 16 Legislative Assembly election.

The Electoral Commissioner, Phil Green, will tomorrow place an advertisement giving notice of the following applications:

Name of proposed party: Free Range Canberra

  • Proposed registered officer: Stephen Gregory Hyam, 8 Bruxner Close, Gowrie

Name of proposed party: Harold Hird Independent Group

  • Proposed registered officer: Lyal Holley, 47 Moynihan Street, Evatt

Name of proposed party: Helen Cross Independents Group

  • Proposed registered officer: Gary John Coombe, 9 Hardie Close, Macarthur

Anyone wishing to object to the registration of these groups as parties for the coming election must lodge an objection with the Electoral Commissioner by 22 July 2004.

Copies of the applications and the constitutions of the parties are available for public inspection at the office of the Commissioner between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm on business days after the publication of the advertisement. Objections will be made available to the relevant proposed registered officer for comment.
