Big jump in enrolment for ACT election

Over 13 000 more people will be able to vote in this year's ACT Legislative Assembly election than were on the roll at the last election in 1998.

With the rolls now closed for the 20 October election, the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Phil Green, said that there were 218 615 electors on the roll – a big jump from the 205 248 who were enrolled for the last election in 1998.

"Over 11 000 enrolment forms were received during the 3 weeks before rolls closed last Friday evening. These were both new enrolments and changes of address, all resulting in a more accurate roll," Mr Green said.

Enrolments for the three ACT electorates now stand at:

  • BRINDABELLA: 64 020
  • GINNINDERRA: 63 267
  • MOLONGLO: 91 328

Enrolment figures for all 5 ACT Legislative Assembly elections are as follows:

1989: 169 493
1992: 184 405
1995: 196 959
1998: 205 248
2001: 218 615
