Published 7 Aug 2001

Notice of applications for registration of a political party and three ballot groups was published today by the ACT Electoral Commissioner, Phil Green.

"I have received an application to register a political party called the Liberal Democratic Party" Mr Green said today. "In addition, 3 Members of the Legislative Assembly have applied to register ballot group names," Mr Green said.

MLA Dave Rugendyke has applied to register a ballot group called "Dave Rugendyke".

MLA Trevor Kaine has applied to register a ballot group called "Kaine Independent Group".

MLA Paul Osborne has applied to register a ballot group called "Paul Osborne".

"This is the first time applications to register ballot groups for ACT Legislative Assembly elections have been notified. The Electoral Act was amended by the Legislative Assembly in June 2001 to provide for the registration of ballot groups by sitting MLAs," Mr Green said.

"The notice of the applications invites objections to any of the applications and allows 14 days for these objections to be lodged," Mr Green said. "Objections must be lodged in writing by close of business on 10 August 2001," he said.
