ACT residents urged to get on Electoral Roll

ACT residents have less than three weeks to make sure that they are correctly enrolled for next month's Legislative Assembly election.

The ACT Electoral Commissioner, Mr Phil Green, today reminded residents that the rolls for the October 20 election close on September 21.

Mr Green said that the reminder was primarily aimed at those who had recently turned 18 or who had become Australian citizens and were therefore now required to enrol to vote.

"Other people who need to ensure that they are correctly enrolled are those who have changed their address in recent months and have not yet notified us," Mr Green said.

Enrolment forms can be picked up from Post Offices, ACT Shopfronts and electoral offices, or can be printed from the Electoral Commission's website. Anyone wanting to check if their enrolment is up-to-date can ring the Elections ACT enquiry number, 6205 0033.

Mr Green said that a number of local residents had recently received letters from the Australian Electoral Commission checking on the accuracy of enrolment details for their residence and that it was important that they reply to these letters.

"These letters are part of an on-going process aimed at ensuring that the roll is as accurate as possible," Mr Green said.

Enrolment for the ACT is currently:

  • BRINDABELLA: 63 425
  • GINNINDERRA: 62 669
  • MOLONGLO: 89 986
  • ACT TOTAL: 216 080
