Redistribution 2000 - Public suggestions available

Published 15 Mar 2000

The second stage in the process of redrawing the ACT Legislative Assembly's electoral boundaries starts tomorrow with the release of public suggestions.

All suggestions received by the Redistribution Committee will be released for public inspection at the ACT Electoral Commission office at 50 Allara St, Civic from 9:00 am, and from its website at www.elections.act.gov.au from 6:00 am tomorrow.

Members of the public are invited to make written comments on suggestions to the Redistribution Committee. Comments should be lodged with the Electoral Commission at the above address or via email to elections@act.gov.au by Thursday 30 March 2000.

After the close of the comments period, the Redistribution Committee will consider the public suggestions and comments before publishing a proposed redistribution of the ACT's electoral boundaries. The public will then have 28 days in which to object to the proposed boundaries.

The Redistribution Committee consists of the acting Electoral Commissioner, Phillip Green; the ACT Planning Authority, Lincoln Hawkins; the Chief Surveyor, Rod Menzies; and the Regional Director, ACT Office, Australian Bureau of Statistics, Dalma Jacobs.
