Elections ACT – Media Release

ACT Equality Party and Christian Democratic Party registration cancelled

8 June 2007

The ACT Equality Party and the Christian Democratic Party ACT Division were both removed from the ACT’s register of political parties today, ACT Electoral Commissioner Phil Green has announced.

The ACT Equality Party’s registration was cancelled at the request of the party.

The Christian Democratic Party ACT Division’s registration was cancelled as the Electoral Commission considered on reasonable grounds that the party had ceased to exist.

Six parties remain registered and eligible to contest the next ACT Legislative Assembly election due to be held in October 2008. They are:

  • Australian Democrats
  • Australian Labor Party (ACT Branch)
  • Free Range Canberra
  • Liberal Democratic Party
  • Liberal Party of Australia (A.C.T. Division)
  • The ACT Greens
